Who’s football’s richest club?

Accounting organisation Deloitte has released its annual Football Money League detailing the richest football clubs in the world. The Football Money League shows the clubs that earned the most revenue in 2018 and 2019. So, who’s football’s richest club?

Deloitte Football Money League – Who’s football’s richest club?

Barcelona were named Deloitte’s No. 1 club in the 2018-19 Football Money League. The Catalan club moved from second to third to earn the top spot in the table. According to the BBC, Barcelona generated more money than ever before due to “taking charge of its own merchandising and licensing activities”.

Last year’s No. 1, Real Madrid, fell to second place thanks to Barcelona’s revenue jump. One club that may be falling in future Football Money League tables is Manchester United. The Red Devils were third in the table this year with a revenue of £627.1 million. However, Manchester United’s continued failures to qualify for the Champions League and the continued revenue growths of Manchester City and Liverpool could see them sink down the table.

Which league produces the richest football clubs?

There is no argument that the Premier League produces the most teams for the Football Money League. Eight clubs make up the top 20 list. Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Arsenal, West Ham and Everton all reached the top 20 of the Football Money League.

One of the biggest winners this season in the table was Juventus. The Bianconeri saw revenue grow thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival in the summer of 2018. The Ronaldo effect saw the club sell more merchandise and gain additional sponsorships.

While the Premier League had the most teams in the Football Money League rankings top 20, France had the fewest, Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon. Serie A, the Bundesliga, and La Liga had three teams apiece.
